Testimonials

I am a 32-year-old female, recovering from heroin addiction.

I have two beautiful boys, ages 13 and 10. I struggled with addiction to pain pills and heroin for about 7 years. I attended two different treatment facilities within my addiction. I currently am 1 day away from having 11 months of continued sobriety. I am a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, I attend meetings daily and am actively working a 12-step program with my amazing sponsor. I have a home group, which is a women’s meeting that meets on Wednesday evenings.

I was discharged from a Summit County inpatient treatment program on 03/16/2015 and came straight to the New Journey Recovery Housing program, where I found a lot of love and support. I was the very first client to enter into the New Journey Recovery Housing program. During my time here I completed the Getting Ahead Program, Nutrition, weekly employment classes. I was assisted in putting together my resume and now I am set to start a job at Coleman Data Solutions. I will be moving into my own apartment with my two children this week through OMCDC Housing. I have also had an opportunity to grow, adjust and get grounded in my recovery while living at New Journey. I honestly do not know if all of these things would be happening in my life today if I had went anywhere else for this phase of my journey. I have made so much growth and have learned a lot at New Journey. I will be forever grateful for having this opportunity here.

I plan to attend school when I leave New Journey, I will begin at Akron University in the spring and study Social Work. I want to be able to help others in this situation in the future. I plan to sponsor other women. I will be an active parent in my children’s life again and hope to build relationships with my children stronger than I could even imagine. I want to be able to have saving accounts for my children so they can build a future and attend college when that time comes. I am so excited for my future plans and to be able to execute these plans today now that I am sober.

It has taken me away from an environment I did not think I could ever get out of.

I was first introduced to opiates at the age of 30 due to an injury at work. I was involved with pain management for 17 years and was given every pain pill and patch available. I ended up on the streets after I lost my house, marriage, and could not see my granddaughter be born. I started buying pain pills on the streets that then turned into heroin and fentanyl. I chose New Journey Recovery House because it was my last alternative, I either had to come here or return to living in Mansfield where I spent a lot of my time using.

Coming to New Journey Recovery Housing has been such a blessing  I have learned to live again, and it has taken me away from an environment I did not think I could ever get out of. I have accomplished a lot since being at New Journey Recovery House. I have opened a checking, savings, and Christmas club account at  the Credit Union. I also have been hired in as a permanent employee at my job and received a promotion after months of working through a temporary service. I have also paid all fines to the Bureau of Motor Vehicle (BMV) and am in the process of getting my driver’s license back and will be taking my driver’s test in March 2022. I am also in the process of buying a car. I also have most of my probation fines paid off. Last but not least, as of February 18, 2022,  I had 1 year sober. I appreciate the opportunity given to me to restore my life.
